Scope of management
Multi-store item inventory

Background

There was no screen to view inventory across stores by item, so checking how much of a given item was at which store meant contacting each store separately. The client kept finding out about stockouts only after they'd already happened.

Scope

  • Per-store inventory registration
  • Unified lookup by item
  • Stockout threshold alerts
  • Inter-store inventory transfer requests
  • Report for order-placement reference

Technical decisions

What we chose, and why it fit

Calculated stockout alerts based on remaining days at current sales velocity, not raw stock quantity

Even with the same 10 units in stock, a fast-selling item and a slow one have different time left before stockout. A simple quantity-based alert caught fast-selling stockouts too late, so we changed the alert criterion to remaining sellable days, reflecting recent sales velocity.
