- Migration scope
- Screens only, moved to the web
Background
The client had used a terminal-screen accounting system for over 20 years. The screens were dated, but staff were deeply accustomed to the information layout and input order within them — moving to something different would have slowed the work down rather than speeding it up.
Scope
- Analysis of existing screen information density
- Reimplementation of accounting input screens on the web
- Kept integration with the existing Oracle database
- Ported the keyboard-shortcut-based input flow
- Screen access control by permission level
Technical decisions
What we chose, and why it fitKept the existing Oracle database rather than replacing it
With decades of accounting data accumulated, also changing the database would have made migration risk far greater than the risk of switching screens. We moved only the screens to the web and kept the database connection, narrowing the verification scope to the screens.
