Background

Employee records, attendance, and payroll calculations were scattered across separate spreadsheets, and at every payroll closing, staff manually cross-checked and transferred data between files.

Technical decisions

What we chose, and why it fit

Left final payroll calculation outside the system, automating only up through the base data used to calculate payroll

Payroll involved company-specific allowance rules and tax handling intertwined together; putting the entire calculation logic into the system would have meant development had to chase every rule change. We drew the boundary so the system focused on accurately producing base data from attendance and leave records, leaving final calculation to the existing process.
